The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the entire education system forever and there is a strong indication of the potential of e-Education. For a few months, the e-education sector has seen a massive surge and it is indicating a possible change in the education trend.
Due to the ongoing issue, the entire world is shut down and schools, colleges, and universities along with many other specialized institutions are the first line of organizations to be affected by this infectious disease. It’s been months, the world is fighting this disease in various ways including remote and distance learning and e-learning platforms are helping. This concept has been introduced early but it has seen a dramatic change in the last few months. We are not just talking about the e-Learning platforms rather we are also talking about all those schools, colleges, and universities that are running their program remotely through digital media.
As a matter of fact, when different parts of the world are continuing to fight Coronavirus infections, more than 1.2 billion are taking their course online. Apart from these school kids and university students, there are many other online learners who are learning from various online sources like Udemy, Udacity, W3 Schools, and many other online learning platforms. It is definitely a radical shift from a classroom-based education to Online based open classroom. Before the spread of COVID-19, education based on technology for every type of learning purpose was increasing but due to COVID-19, it has increased even many folds. According to a report by Market Insider, in 2019 the investment in Edtech reached over $18 billion. On the other hand, the Research and Market has confirmed that the overall market for Online based education will reach US$350 billion by 2025. This is an impeccable growth that projected early in 2019.
The COVID-19 has hit the world in early December 2019 and the global lock-down is in effect from January and February 2020. According to a UNESCO report, in February the online course recipients were 0.3 billion and in March it became 1.38 billion which is showing us the future of the education sector. This projection is also leading us to a revolutionary change in the education sector for sure. Well, this COVID-19 impact is everywhere but when it comes to platforms like Udemy or Udacity, this is different. While other models of education are dying due to lock-down, the online and open classroom learning model is shining. What does this actually mean? It is showing us the path of e-education that can revolutionize the entire learning concept.
The e-learning model has numerous positive effects and this impacts on helping to adopt a new world of knowledge. It is effective in terms of the cost of education. In comparison to university and college degrees, these skill-based courses are effective in the real world. They are even better than other learning models. According to research, students capture 25-60% more materials and learning than the classroom environment. On the other hand, online classes open more opportunities for a lot of people who do not have enough time to join real classroom learning. Therefore keeping all these facilities, Online education had to become vital to people, which is now understood even better. So it is clear that COVID-19 is disrupting an entire education system that has been running from the beginning of human civilization and leading to the online education model.
